Work Experience and Extracurricular Activities

Part-Time Assistant – Sean Brown Artist at Studio 12
May 2010

I did a number of things, among them assembling frames and helping to make ceramic pieces (smoothing out cut clay, beading, etc.).

AVID Tutor – George Washington High School, Denver Public School District
February 2009-May 2009

I helped students in three AVID classes (freshman through senior level) become organized, helped them take better notes in class, and edited their papers to make them better writers. AVID stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination." It is an elective and a college-prep program that encourages students to complete academically rigorous courses and to apply to universities.

Volunteer – Final Cut Pro Instructor and Studio Crew at Denver Open Media
November 2008-present

I continue to volunteer at Denver Open Media after my internship. I'm one of the instructors for their Introduction to Final Cut Pro workshops; am the production coordinator and floor manager for First Friday events; and help set up the set and host for VlogTV, a call-in show where people request their favorite online videos.

Post-Production Intern at Denver Open Media
August 2008-November 2008

I interned at Open Media Foundation, a non-profit organization that operates Denver Open Media (DOM). DOM provides public access television to residents of the city and county of Denver. They also allow people to learn how to use field equipment, Final Cut Pro edit stations, and live studios so that they can create their own shows, which then air on the channels and on DOM's website. Internship tasks included editing the footage from the live First Friday events (or doing any other logging or editing that needed to be done) and helping other members or people from other non-profit organizations with questions about Final Cut Pro.

Web Master/Secretary, DU Anime Club
2007-2008/2006-2008

As the new Web Master, I updated the content for Anime Club's web site with the anime we were currently watching or completed and any other news. As secretary I took notes on what was done each meeting, i.e. what episodes were watched, what events were planned, and announcements.

Member, National Society of Collegiate Scholars
2006-present

I became a lifelong member due to my GPA upon enrollment (3.5).

Volunteer, Colorado Humane Society
Winter 2005

As a part of my English class during Spring Quarter 2005 (also a common class for the EALLC), I volunteered at the Colorado Humane Society. I helped walk some of the pets, clean up after them, played with them and fed them.

Member – Environmental Awareness Living and Learning Community, Univ. of Denver
2004-2005

I applied to be a part of one out of several Living and Learning Communities (LLCs) as a freshman to DU. As an Environmental Awareness LLC member, students live in the same hall for the year and take an elective class designed around the theme of the LLC. The classes took us out to local destinations, where we learned about topics like sustainability, energy efficiency, and how foreign plants and animals affect local wildlife (noxious weeds).
