Virus vs. Worm
Virus – a program that can replicate itself and cause harm to computers. Usually found in e-mail attachments and must be executed by the user.
Worm – a type of virus...software that can repeat itself. It does not have to be opened (like a normal virus) to do any damage.
To avoid a virus or worm...
- Use a firewall
- Don't open attachments or follow links to websites in e-mail from people you do not know
- Don't download from sites you do not trust or know
- Be cautious when surfing the Internet; websites may harbor malicious script
- Run virus scans and spyware scans every so often and update the definitions
