Project Proposal
My final project is a collection of poems that I have written. For this project, the written material will generally involve poems where I will be focused on experimenting with typography and imagery with poems and seeing what I can do with traditional poetry in a digital medium. Eventually I plan to put a lot of my written works (prose and poetry) up on my web site to act as a personal writing portfolio as well as a place to practice web design skills with CSS and HTML.
The idea is to use both photos I have taken together with my poems and using only letterforms to create images based off of the poems. I have also used found letters in the pieces with the Scrabble game board. The idea is to put poems that are similar visually or thematically into a miniature collection and then have the poems within the collection link to another poem in the group.
I was inspired to do this sort of project partly because I was on the staff of the literary magazine in high school, and still have interest in creative writing; I have also taken a couple of creative writing courses while at DU, and in the last poetry class I took last spring quarter, each student made a "chapbook" of poems they had written over the course of the quarter. I am also interested in the use of typography to create a visual meaning, mostly as a result of taking the Typography course.
